Copper-Zinc (Cu-Zn) Sputtering Target Introduction
Copper-Zinc (Cu-Zn) targets are sputtering targets composed of a copper and zinc alloy. The compositional ratio is adjustable to optimize film properties for specific applications. The alloy combines copper's excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and ductility with zinc's corrosion resistance and relatively low cost. This results in a material with the following characteristics:
- Physical Properties: Relatively low melting point (dependent on alloy ratio, lower than pure copper), density between that of copper and zinc, hardness and strength dependent on alloy composition and heat treatment, good ductility, and ease of processing.
- Chemical Properties: Better corrosion resistance than pure copper, especially in certain environments where zinc addition enhances oxidation and corrosion resistance. However, corrosion resistance in strong acids and alkalis needs to be considered. Susceptible to dezincification (a type of corrosion).
- Electrical Properties: Good electrical conductivity, slightly lower than pure copper, but with a lower cost and better cost-effectiveness.
- Mechanical Properties: Hardness and strength can be controlled by adjusting alloy composition and heat treatment to meet various application requirements.Note: Purity, shape, thickness, and dimensions can all be customized,Please feel free to contact us for more details.
Purity (%) | Shape | Manufacturing process | Max. Size |

Cu-Zn targets are widely used in various thin-film deposition techniques, including magnetron sputtering, DC sputtering, and RF sputtering, primarily for:
- Semiconductor Industry: Deposition of conductive layers for interconnects, electrodes, etc.; fabrication of films with specific electrical properties, such as metallization layers in integrated circuits.
- Optics: Deposition of films with specific optical properties for optical component coatings (although not as effective as some noble metals).
- Decorative Coatings: Deposition of aesthetically pleasing and corrosion-resistant decorative films.
- Antimicrobial Materials: Copper's antimicrobial properties make Cu-Zn alloys suitable for antimicrobial coatings in medical devices and surface treatments.
- Automotive Industry: Used in coatings for automotive components to enhance wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
- Construction Materials: Used in architectural decoration and protective coatings to improve material durability and appearance.
